Your first appointment  

Your first appointment - Good preparations are beneficial ! 

Patient checklist. 

If this is the first time to visit  podiatrist.
Don’t worry, this simple guide will help you prepare you for your first appointment & help you make the most of your

scheduled appointment time.

Before you visit. 

• Make a list of your symptoms and any questions you may have.
• Make a list of

   1) your prescribed & non prescribed medications,

   2) any illnesses, injuries and surgical procedures.


• Bring any records you may have of X-rays, MRIs, and lab results.
• If you have 'Medical Insurance', please check with your 'Insurance provider' before your appointment (to see if a 'Family

  Doctor or Consultant referral letter is required).
• If you have 'special mobility' (or other) needs, please telephone or email (at least 24 hours) before your podiatry

  appointment  
• Please bring a ffamily member or friend, if you think it will be helpful.
• If your foot complaint is exagerated by sport or distance walking exercise, please bring all your walking / exercise / sports

  footwear with you to the appointment. (Please bring all (currently in use & older out of use) footwear in "pairs" to your

  appointment.

  

During your visit .

• Go through your list of questions.

• Please listen carefully and please feel free to take notes (if your need to).
• If you do not understand any answers, please ask for a repeated answer or further explanation.
• Discuss your symptoms and any recent changes that you may have noticed.
• Inform the Podiatrist about your prescribed medications and who prescribed them  'Family Doctor'  or 'Hospital Consultant'. 
• Alert the Podiatrist to any allergies you may have.
• Tell the Podiatrist if you are pregnant, trying to get pregnant or if you are breast feeding a 'newborn' child.
• Let your Podiatrist know if you are attending any other  'Healthcare Professionals'.

After your visit.

• Prepare for any tests that the podiatrist may advise.
• Ask about what you need to do to get ready, and what results may point to.
• Ask when and how the test results will be made available to you.
• Schedule a follow-up appointment (if additional podiatry treatment is necessary) before you leave your podiatrist’s clinic.
